about us

Welcome to Jurisdiction!  We are located in the Cabin John Village shopping center, next to Giant at: 7937A Tuckerman Lane, Potomac Maryland 20854

We carry fun, diverse and accessible casual clothing, accessories and gifts.  We pride ourselves on helping every customer feel their best and are proud to carry size inclusive styles. We prominently feature local and small-business/handmade products in our store.

Jurisdiction was founded in 2023 by owner Jessica Markham, a Montgomery County native and resident of Potomac. We were honored to be named Best New Boutique by Potomac Living Magazine in 2024 and as a Best of Bethesda (Magazine) Editor’s Pick for Shopping in 2025.

Inside Jurisdiction, a white neon sign reads “We Are All Beautiful,” reflective of the store’s inclusive philosophy, says attorney and owner Jessica Markham, 44, of Potomac. The independent store sells items in all sizes (including plus) and aims to make people of different gender identities and expressions feel welcome, all while appealing to varying budgets. It also features accessories and gifts from women-, Black-, and queer-owned businesses. The boutique carries classic items (such as blazers and wide-leg trousers by Oat New York) for women who “need to look put together in an office-casual environment,” Markham says, along with some cocktail attire. Many items cost less than $100, although the store does feature high-end pieces from Suncoo, a Parisian line.

We believe that our work with diverse customers, and the diverse brands we carry should be mirrored by and represented through our team, and feel that having a team with varying ideas and experiences is crucial to our success.  Therefore, we actively seek out opportunities to create a culture rich in diversity and inclusion by carrying Queer Owned, Black-owned, Woman-Owned and Native-Owned Brands.
